The Link between Infertility and Chiropractic

chiropracticVarious clinical researches have pointed out the benefits and fantastic results of chiropractic care for patients who were unproductive in their quest to have children. Although chiropractic therapy is not a direct infertility treatment, it can contribute to improved homeostasis and physiological modification which allows the body to attain an improved state of health.

In the following studies, chiropractic rehabilitation was utilized and the results were noted and published. The case studies were available in three straight issues of the peer-reviewed Journal of Verebral Subluxation Research (JVSR). These studies were about women who struggled with infertility and chose to have chiropractic therapy. There was a positive correlation between the use of chiropractic care and the improvement of their problems regarding infertility.

A case study, published in the December 8, 2003 issue of JVSR, involved a 32-year-old infertile female. She had attempted many conservative medical interventions namely: artificial insemination, detailed fertility testing, treatment with the fertility drug, Clomid, and in vitro fertilization. She tried to become pregnant since August of 1999. To no avail, she sought chiropractic care in November 2001. Chiropractic examination and therapy were done over the following six weeks. During this time, the patient noticed improvements of her other problems such as her low back pain and headaches. Furthermore, her cervical mucus levels, endometrial thickness, and estrogen levels had a noticeable improvement contrary to her previous results prior to the first in vitro fertilization. A second attempt of in vitro fertilization was done on February 17, 2002. Amazingly, the patient had a positive pregnancy test result on March 2, 2002.

The next case was concerned with a 34-year-old woman who sought for chiropractic care on January of 2000. She had numerous health problems which included infertility. She underwent chiropractic care and did not modify anything else with lifestyle and clinical condition. She naturally got pregnant after 4 weeks into her chiropractic rehabilitation.

Finally, the third case is about a 65-year-old female who had low back pain with severe lumbar deterioration. At the age of 13, she had fallen accidentally. This resulted in a cessation of her normal menstrual cycle at the age of 18 and was diagnosed as infertile. Whats amazing is the fact that she was not attempting to be pregnant. After four weeks of chiropractic care, she began having spotting and was diagnosed to have regular menses again.

In these case studies, chiropractic care was opted in order to improve the vertebral subluxations that were identified to be interfering with the normal functioning of the nervous system. In turn, these subluxations disrupted the performance of the reproductive system of the patients. As evidenced by the occurrence of subluxations, these researches portray that those women who were struggling with infertility had apparent interference in their nervous system.

The clinical studies also pointed out the cost of various infertility treatment options available for couples. The cost range easily goes to the thousands. Long term risks linked with in vitro fertilization is also apparent in the studies. The online issue of the American Journal of Human Genetics of November 2002 published that “babies conceived by in vitro fertilization may be at increased risk for a rare genetic disorder that predisposes them to cancer.”

Therefore, these studies indicate that, “Spinal subluxations and dysfunction in the nervous system can hinder the normal functioning of the human systems. The human structure is naturally healthy and to procreate. Injuries of this capability signifies malfunction on an essential level.”
